Isaiah 8:11-14 is spot on for what is going on globally today. Turmoil is an accurate word describing our world whether a person lives in Europe, South, North or Central America, Asia or more specifically the good ol’ USA. I know dear friends of mine and relatives who will spend hours looking at Fox, CNN or MSNBC. They become overwhelmed, some being terrified declaring, “There is no hope for this world or our beloved nation.”
In Isaiah 8:11&12, he warns us, 11 This is what the Lord says to me with his strong hand upon me, warning me not to follow the way of this people: 12 “Do not call conspiracy everything this people calls a conspiracy; do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. In verse 11 Isaiah states “with a strong hand upon me, do not follow the way of the people.” Well, what are the people doing? Look at verse 12:
- “Do not call conspiracy everything this people call a conspiracy…
- Do not fear what they fear
- Do not dread it.”
Seriously, doesn’t this sound exactly like what is happening today? Whether you are at work, school, coffee shop, family get together or even at church, people are fearful about and drowning in the “conspiracies” of our world. Going back up to verse 11, Isaiah says for us to not get caught up in all this!!
Now, Isaiah tells us what to do in 8:13&14, “13 The Lord Almighty is the one you are to regard as holy, he is the one you are to fear, he is the one you are to dread. 14 He will be a holy place…Do not get caught up in Fox, CNN, MSNBC, etc. and live in fear of what is said over and over and over again. Fear God and Him alone. Fear of God means reverential awe or respect for Him far above anything or anyone else. So, FEAR HIM, HE IS OUR HOLY PLACE!!
Matthew 6:33 says this is very simply but absolutely dynamic: “Seek you first the kingdom of God, and all these other things will be taken care!”
Fear God, and Him alone!
