In case you are not current with colloquialism at the street level, “wuss out” means to fail to do or complete something as a result of fear, lack of confidence or lack of effort. Synonyms are avoid, evade, dodge, duck, flinch from, escape from. In the spiritual world there is no room for wusses. On the opposite side of the spectrum is the word, “persistent”, meaning to continue firmly or obstinately in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition. Sometimes a persistent person is a pain in the backside to people around them; however, Jesus loves these folks and especially folks who persistently pray.
Jesus taught on the power of persistency by using a parable in Luke 11:5-8, “Then He said to them, “Suppose one of you has a friend, and goes to him at midnight and says to him, ‘Friend, lend me three loaves; 6 for a friend of mine has come to me from a journey, and I have nothing to set before him’; 7 and from inside he answers and says, ‘Do not bother me; the door has already been shut and my children and I are in bed; I cannot get up and give you anything.’ 8 I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.” By the way, this parable followed right behind Jesus’ teaching the Lord’s prayer. It is obvious that persistent prayer is effective prayer. Do not give up in your prayer life. Patiently persist and you will receive.
Jesus immediately follows the parable above by declaring, “9 So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks, receives; and he who seeks, finds; and to him who knocks, it will be opened.” The tense of the verb means to “continue asking, continue seeking, and continue knocking.” You can’t wuss out in your prayer life by lazily throwing out some things that you need with an “in Jesus name” at the end and expect anything in return. Jesus says to keep asking, seeking, and knocking continually. Then, you receive, find and the door will be open
Do you want your life to change for good? Are there things you believe God wants done? Do you see a family or friend going in the wrong direction? Ask, seek and knock persistently and your prayers will be answered. Within your heart this very moment, determine to no longer wuss out in your prayer life and become a persistent prayer warrior. You will be amazed what God does.
