The Choice Is Yours

“But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

I love this version of this verse. As I read this last week a couple of things jumped out to me. First of all, the Lord gives complete freedom to make a choice regarding whom you will serve. It has been said that “there will be no fingernail marks leading to the gates of heaven”, meaning God is not dragging anyone into heaven. Our Father has given us the choice to serve Him or not!

The other thing that jumps out to me is … we (as humans) WILL SERVE SOMETHING or SOMEONE! We are built for relationship and ultimately we were built, whether we want to admit it or not, for a relationship with HIM!  He even points out some of the other gods (little “g”) who were previously served/worshipped by their ancestors. I am just as guilty as anyone else out there in putting other things before the one and only God … our Abba Father (daddy)!

As poorly as I have done with that over the 34+ years since I accepted Christ, I once again and daily choose that “as for me and my household, we will serve THE LORD!” (emphasis mine). I hope you will too! Blessings!
