The Miracle Room

I have a dear friend and brother in Christ, Dennis Farr, whose lungs are being ravaged by COVID.  Let me assure you, if there is a better man, I don’t know him.  He is a man of God and lives that way whether in the workspace, family life, the secrecy of his personal life, or church life…the real deal through and through.  He says what he means and means what he says.  Another thing that I experienced being around Dennis, I have never worked with anyone doing physical labor who could outwork Dennis.  He helped Pam and me move from Plano to Rockwall.  I worked next to him while he was getting 5 times as much done than myself.  I simply couldn’t keep up with him.  Finally, he insinuated to me that if I “would get out of his way”, he could get so much more done.  Hurt my feelings but it was the truth!  So, you can imagine what I felt when I discovered that Dennis was just shy of death with a torn lung meaning he was intubated at 100% oxygen with “a thin line” between him and eternity.  By the way, he is down to 80% as of yesterday.

We had an unbelievable prayer meeting for Dennis several nights ago in the parking lot of Baylor, Scott, White where Dennis lies.  We were trying to pray positive but some of us recognized the horrible predicament that he was in.  Then, a dear, dear sister, Kim Shirley, gave us a holy, powerful, full of faith tongue lashing.  Her husband, Doug, had been in a similar situation with sepsis and 5% chance of living.  What did Kim do?  She threw all the hospital personnel who were talking negative about his survivability out of his hospital room and banned them.  She only let people in who prayed and spoke faith.  Doug is alive and kicking albeit some chunks of flesh being eaten by sepsis.  The hospital started calling the room that Doug was in the “Miracle Room”.  A miracle happened and God got the glory.

So, I am calling you to pray preferably out loud where the devil can hear it.  In fact, in Ephesians 6:17, the Bible tells us to “put on the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.”  Rhema is the word used for “the Word of God”, not logos, the inspired Word.  Rhema means to speak out God’s Word.  Let me assure you in the spiritual world confessing aloud God’s almighty Holy Word has maximum currency.  Speak it out!

There was an interesting story in Acts 8.  James the brother of John had been arrested by King Herod and put to death by the Jews.  This proved to be very popular to his constituency in Jerusalem.  So, if James got fanfare what do you think would happen to his ratings if the loudmouth spokesman for this renegade sect, Peter, was apprehended and killed?  Once Peter had been arrested, the Christian church was terrified and hid behind closed doors.  However, they prayed “fervently” for Peter’s freedom.  Let’s allow the word of God to speak for itself, “⁶ The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. ⁷ Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. ‘Quick, get up!’ he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists.” Peter experienced the Miracle Room and ended up going to the disciples to tell them that Jesus set him free!  How do you think he was received? The following is what happened, and I hope that it will encourage us.  “¹² When this had dawned on him (that he had miraculously been set free), he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. ¹³ Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant named Rhoda came to answer the door. ¹⁴ When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!”  ¹⁵ “You’re out of your mind,” they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.”  ¹⁶ But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. ¹⁷ Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison.” The Christ-followers were shocked that God set Peter free as they had requested in prayer. What a miracle!

We are a lot like the above Christians who were shocked that God had answered their prayer with the miracle of Peter being set free.  So, let’s keep on banding together in prayer and sponsor prayer meetings that confess that Jesus is Lord and a “miracle worker”.  Like Kim, let’s refuse doubting thoughts and prayers.  Throw them off and profess out loud that Jesus is the “King of Kings”.  If so, we will experience another Miracle Room!

James 5:16 states, “The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.”
