I often hear the proclamation that “home is the heart of love.” In truth, home as designed by God is to be a laboratory where families are built, love is expressed, respect is produced, a healthy view of God is expressed in the relationship between Dad and Mom, support for each other is a priority, God’s Word is the foundation, and Jesus is Lord. As created by God, home is a beautiful, dynamic expression of love, respect, and growth.
However, 50% of marriages currently end up in divorce and many other families are thrown together without a marriage including kids being dragged along trying to make any sense of family. The “dad” and “mom” roles are totally dysfunctional with kids in a constant state of confusion and bewilderment. Children do not even know who the adults are leading their household and have no relationship with other kids who they may be sharing a house or even a room (how unsafe is that). Many live in a jungle with often emotional and physical abusiveness occurring frequently.
What a mess!
Can I tell you some great news? Jesus did not come for the religious, established folks who felt they had it all together and needed no help. He came for the brokenhearted, the sick, the handicapped, the sinner, the needy, the ugly, the dirty, and the lost. Christ died as a rejected, betrayed, hated man by the large majority of people who sentenced Him to a humiliating, ugly, beastly death on a cross with large spikes driven through His limbs. The gravity of His body choked the life out of His lungs. The whole purpose of the cross was to enable God to save sinners by reconciling God to man and man to God. The 1st man that Jesus saved was a hardened criminal hanging on a cross next to Him. Jesus came for the broken who know they are lost and desperately need help.
If your home is a mess, change your heart. You cannot make the changes in your house on your own. You need the help of Jesus which is a simple proposition. Romans 6:23 is clear, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The free gift of God becomes effective once you receive and open it. Your heart will change and along with it will be your desires. 2 Corinthians 5:17 is an encouraging truth for you, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” With a new heart, start praying and reading His Word beginning with the Gospel of John.
