17″

Home plate on a baseball field is always 17” wide.  I don’t care if you are playing tee ball, coach pitch ball, junior league ball, high school ball, college ball, semi-pro ball or Major League ball, home plate is always 17” wide.  So, the pitcher, the catcher, the batter and the umpire all know at any age, for each and every game played, what the strike zone is from a width perspective.  It is 17”.  You can train and plan from a kid to an adult what the strike zone is and will be.  It is always 17”.

The Bible says in Hebrew 13:8, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.  You can absolutely bank on this fact.  God will always be the same.  You don’t have to worry about God being “in a mood,” He does not change.  James 1:16&17 declares, Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

If God is the same, not matter the day or the moment and if  “there is not variation or shadow due to change,” what is God like?  Let’s look briefly at some of His attributes.

God is a God of love.  This love is not a feeling, Hallmark love.  It is a sacrificial, agape love.  The Bible say in John 3:16 that “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

God is a holy God.  1 Peter 1:16 says, “He who called you is holy.”  Hebrews 4:15 declares, For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin.

God is a merciful God.  He does not give us what we deserve.

God is a God of grace.  He gives us what we don’t deserve.

God is an omniscient God.  He is all knowing.  Note Hebrews 4:13, And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

God is omnipotent.  He is a God of all power.

God is a just God.  He is fair.  He is not a Santa Claus God.  Sin has to be paid for.  If not, any system will go astray.  The most amazing act ever as mentioned above in John 3:16, God gave His only son, sinless to pay for our sin.  2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  This is a gift to each of us.  If someone gives you gift, it is no good to you unless you receive it.  John 1:12 exclaims, But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.

You go to the bank with this eternal deposit.  It is true.  His Word is absolutely true today, tomorrow and forever.  Amen!
